True Colours

Waking up this morning, only one thought crossed our minds: KATE, THE DRESS (and of course what would be for breakfast). Thirty minutes into our Youtube-session, the computer decided to go republican on us and crashed. This was, however, already enough time to get our orange hearts beating in full anticipation of Queensday tomorrow. As true Naranjas we have everything prepared: balloons, schmink and orange dress. Buenos Aires seems prepared as well, with bicicletas naranjas all over town. We took two of them for a museum tour, and also paid a visit to Jardín Japonés´ orange Koi, whose massive size filled us with both admiration and disgust.

In line with our orange mood, it has generally been a truly colourful week. Covering the whole spectrum, we started with the red on our toenails and the rosé in our glasses (0800-Vino), continued with the yellow and green of our noquis caseros (recipe here) to the deep blue sky. Even more colourful than our camera could capture were the murals at San Telmo market, the houses in La Boca and the graffiti designs in Palermo Viejo.

Colours become more intense when they contrast. This definitely applies to colourful Argentina as well. Since our last post we have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the porteño elite during the Argentina-England polo match, and played with children in the poor villas while volunteering for L.I.F.E. From the polo grounds to Ciudad Oculta the physical distance may be short, but the gap between polo shirts with Ray-Bans and the children in hand-me-downs is enormous. A difference of day and night.

Speaking of the latter (and putting in the worst bridge this blog has seen so far), vivid porteño life tends to start at midnight and goes on until at least 8 A.M. In this time span, you can find colourful transvestites at Niceto Club, watch coke-smurfs with sunglasses on at Pachá or grab (or be grabbed by) a cute porteño to dance the night away at one of the many milongas. With Dodo gone back to DC, we did however learn that it takes three to tango after all.

¡Hasta luego!

  1. Whoopiedooo, happy Koninginnedag!!!

I too found the royal wedding a very good second best to queensday in orange. Did you know the Brits do street parties extremely well?! Not in orange though...

So good to hear what you've been up to! Nice distraction from exam preparations. Keep us posted :D

And ehm, not sure I got this correct but the last remark seems to imply something very funky ;)

    Besos!!!
