All the guidebooks (or rather, gad baks - please refer to this link for proper pronunciation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKFjWR7X5dU) will tell you that the meat here is the best in the world. And... it´s true. Try one and the next time you are driving through the countryside, the cows in the fields start taking on a strangely steak-shaped form. We have been converted and are now among the true believers.
To top it all off, the steaks are prepared on giant parillas (this afternoon, the parilla equalled a HERAS-hek, better not try that at home... nor in your back yard), allowing everyone to let his inner alpha male take over. If it weren´t for the strong inclination of Argentinian women over 40 for weekly visits to their plastic surgeon, Argentinian men would be the happiest in the world. Now, they can´t even bring their chinas close to the grill because they would risk a face-meltdown (...)
And last but certainly not least, since this blog is all about the tan and the tango, you´ll be happy to learn that we got our first tan in Cabo Polonio. In between the rainfall, windstorms and the taking care of the daily necessities (such as getting water from our own well and making a fire while not accidentally setting the house on fire at the same time), there was still time for plenty of sun and even some swimming - for some of us that is. We immediately became friends with all the dogs roaming around, especially SJP will always have a special place in our hearts. The other fellow occupants of the Cabo - the lobos and the turkeys (see below) - were a bit less welcoming, but they definitely made for an interesting and somewhat smelly crowd.
As far as the tango is concerned, this remains work in progress with yesterday our first lesson in Buenos Aires and even a small dance in the milonga itself (which normally is reserved for those who actually know how to dance really well). For a nice piece of contemporary tango, check out Gotan Project (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-7nJ4V57Ww). Blonde fact of the day: although having known the group for almost 5 years, it took exactly 5 years minus three days for Jori to figure out that it is actually tango inverted. It took Lisette 5 years minus three days to realise that she actually already knew the group.
